Students Speak Out on School Lunch
An Associated Press article published last week looks at the Agriculture Department’s new school lunch menu through students’ eyes. Among the many students interviewed for the piece, Farm Bureau member Rachelle Chinn, a freshman from Clarence, Mo., spoke out about the new lunch program.
“The fruits and vegetables are good at first but once they wear off, I get hungry,” said Chinn, a softball player, who says the new 750-850 calorie lunches aren’t enough for student athletes. “It’s just not enough to get me through the day.”
Rachelle’s mom, Chris Chinn, has been a vocal critic of what she calls the “one size fits all” lunch program, agreeing that many student athletes aren’t getting enough to eat.
