Farm Bill Should be Top Priority for House Lame Duck

A new farm bill should be the House’s first order of business when lawmakers return to Washington, D.C., on Nov. 13 for a post-election lame-duck session, the American Farm Bureau Federation and more than a dozen other agricultural organizations said in a statement issued on Monday.

“The bottom line is that while the expiration of the farm bill causes little or no pain to some, others face significant challenges,” the groups wrote.

Among the programs most affected by the Sept. 30 expiration of the 2008 farm bill is the Milk Income Loss Contract program.
