Rural Votes Matter

Rural Votes Matter

Rural votes matter, noted the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Linda (L.J.) Johnson, in this week’s Focus on Agriculture column. “Rural country roads are an important part of the road map that leads to the White House,” wrote Johnson. Rural voters can also make a difference in key Senate and House races and history bears this out. In 2010, two-thirds of the nation’s most competitive House races were in rural America.

Maybe you’re counting down the days until the election because you’re tired of all the political ads or perhaps because you’re tired of debating your friends on Facebook. But L.J. Johnson, the American Farm Bureau Federation’s director of policy implementation programs, told Newsline that voting is not only a civic responsibility, it’s your chance to protect what is important to you.

So remember, every vote from rural America is important. Cast your vote for the candidates you want to represent you. It is your patriotic duty and in the end, you just might be the deciding vote.
