Chad Vorthmann was born and raised on a fourth generation row crop and cattle farm in southwest Iowa.  He attended the University of Nebraska, competed on the livestock judging team and studied journalism and diversified agriculture. After college, he worked as a beef nutrition specialist. Two years later, he joined the staff of the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Beef Association and was eventually hired to run the national Beef Quality Assurance program for NCBA.  Wanting to work more closely with grassroots members, Vorthmann went back to the state level, joining Colorado Farm Bureau in 2002 as the Director of Communications.  He was promoted to Vice President of Organization in 2007 and Executive Vice President in 2012.  Chad’s wife, Garin, works for Colorado Legislative Services, who provides contract advocacy services for Colorado Farm Bureau.  The couple has two daughters.  Chad enjoys working out and hunting elk, deer and black bear on the families’ cattle ranch in Southwest Colorado.

Spencer is responsible for monitoring and responding to federal legislative and regulatory actions that impact Colorado agriculture, farming and ranching businesses, and the state’s rural economies. Before joining the Colorado Farm Bureau, Spencer served as a professional staff member for the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources, Subcommittee on Federal Lands. In that role, he managed all bills and issues related to federal lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Prior to joining the Committee, Spencer owned and operated his own consulting firm that assisted companies and trade associations with regulatory compliance, legislation, and marketing. Preceding that, he served as Manager of Government Affairs with Western Energy Alliance, an oil and natural gas trade association based in Denver.  Spencer grew up in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, holds a B.A. in Political Science from Southern Methodist University, and currently lives in Denver with his wife and son.

Shawn Martini currently serves as the Vice President of Advocacy for the Colorado Farm Bureau, cultivating relationships with community, political and business leaders to achieve the organization’s public policy goals. Shawn previously worked as a consultant in communications and grassroots advocacy for oil and gas industry clients ranging from large multinationals to family-owned firms in Houston, TX and in Denver, CO. He worked on projects related to the Keystone XL pipeline, offshore and Arctic energy production in Alaska, and directed campaigns on hydraulic fracturing and public lands energy production in the Mountain West. Prior to his work in the energy industry, Shawn served as the Communications Director for the Colorado Farm Bureau from 2008 to 2012. He comes from a diversified ag background, and graduated from both Northeastern Junior College, and Metropolitan State University in Denver.

Emily Ibach grew up in Nebraska as the sixth generation on her families farm and ranch where they raise mostly corn and black Angus cattle. Emily attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and majored in Agricultural Economics as an undergrad. While in college Emily completed summer internships with Dupont Pioneer in Johnston, IA; Monsanto Company in Washington, D.C; SnitiilyCarr in Lincoln, NE; and Merck Animal Health covering the Nebraska territory. Emily decided to return to UNL to pursue her master’s degree in Integrated Media Communications. Emily has enjoyed following politics from an early age and recently volunteered on her first campaign this past summer supporting Gov. Pete Ricketts in Nebraska. Emily joined the CFB Staff in January as the Director of Public Policy, State Affairs. Emily enjoys attending any Husker sporting event (especially football!), traveling, snow skiing, reading, cooking and watching the Food Network.

Richard Connell is the Director of Membership and Grassroots Leader Development with Colorado Farm Bureau. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University with a degree in Agricultural Economics, and spent 13 years owning and operating a diverse crop and livestock farm. In 1982 he joined the CFB team as Regional Manager for Districts 8, 9 and 10 and is still the Regional Manager for Districts 9 and 10. In his current position, he provides staff leadership for CFB Regional Managers, member involvement and county Farm Bureau participation. As Director of Leader Development, he provides Leadership training for CFB staff, County Farm Bureau leaders, CFB program areas, CFB State Board of Directors and the Elite Leadership Academy. Richard currently lives on a livestock farm in Mesa County

Rebecca Edlund is a Colorado Native.  The granddaughter of a dairy farmer in Maryland, she was raised a city girl with a love and curiosity for creation.  She came to us from Colorado Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and brings with her more than ten years of experience in office management and customer service.  She is married to Hans and they live in northwest Denver where she favors her rapidly growing indoor garden. Together, they are active in their church and community.

Jane joined the Colorado Farm Bureau in November 2016 and brings a diverse background in non-profit development, communications and events management. She’s worked for Hospice, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Global Down Syndrome Foundation, and assists with the family graphic design business, Lundwall Creative, Inc., as Client and Account Coordinator.  Farming is “in the family” and cousins own and operate farms in Lake Preston, SD and Prairie City, IW.  She is honored to be a part of the Colorado Farm Bureau team and support in her role as Executive Assistant. Jane earned a BA in Mass Communications/Public Relations from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She enjoys playing tennis and spending time with her awesome husband of 32 years, Jerry, their three daughters, and son-in-law.

Lori Kester is a native of the San Luis Valley, where she grew up on a fourth generation family farm raising alfalfa hay, barley, oat hay and winter wheat. On years when water is not in shortage, her family also raises a few acres of silage corn, red potatoes, broccoli and asparagus.  In addition to production, Lori has experience in processing her family’s products in a small feed mill that her family owns and operates.  She attended St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, took time off from school to serve a mission for her church before finally graduating from Adams State College with a degree in mass communications.  She interned in the Washington D.C. office of Congressman John Salazar. She currently resides in Alamosa, Colorado. When she is not working as a Regional Manager for the Colorado Farm Bureau she can be found playing piano and singing at local events or helping her parents on their family farm.

Rebecca Martinez is a Florida native. She attended the University of Central Florida where she studied English Creative Writing and Philosophy. Upon graduating in the Fall of 2011, she was offered a paid legislative internship with Gray Robinson, P.A. lobbying team in the Florida state capitol. At the conclusion of the 2012 legislative session, she was offered a staff position with the Republican Party of Florida where she managed House campaigns in the Central Florida region. Post election, she was offered a job with a Florida Congressman in Washington, DC on Capitol Hill. Her true passion is good policy and good people. At times she misses the Florida beaches and being near water, but she can't complain about the trade off view of the beautiful mountains and no humidity.

Tyler Meehan is a Colorado native. He is the grandson of sugar beet farmers in Sterling Colorado. Tyler graduated from Biola University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He enjoys reading, particularly John Steinbeck, in his spare time.

Jayde Van Cleave was born in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1972 and moved to Douglas County, Colorado, when he was 3 years old.  He graduated from Northeastern Junior College with an associate’s degree in ag science and later finished his higher education at Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in animal sciences. Jayde has been involved in agriculture all his life with his family working on ranches in Colorado and Nebraska. He now runs his own small ranch in Rush, Colorado, and loves ranching, fly-fishing and restoring motorcycles.  Jayde started working for Colorado Farm Bureau in 2002 and is currently serving as the Regional Manager for Districts 3 and 6.
